Gel batteries are mostly the same as regular lead-acid batteries yous use to offset your car, except the bombardment cells contain a gel rather than a fluid. Gel batteries are considered to be safer, because if the casing gets damaged the gel doesn't spill, but fluid-based batteries tin can leak sulfuric acid, if the casing gets damaged. Gel batteries are sealed units, and then unlike fluid-based batteries you cannot access the cells. The best way to fix and restore a gel battery is to discharge it as much equally possible and and then charge the battery slowly.
Step one
Bank check your battery is discharged earlier fixing and restoring it. Turn on your car's lights and other electrical equipment to use any ability in the bombardment. The lights dim, when the battery is near discharged. It'southward not necessary to completely discharge the bombardment. Every bit soon as the lights dim, plough them off and whatsoever other electrical equipment yous previously turned on.
Step 2
Squeeze the handles of the clamp on the end of the black cable from the battery charger using your hand then the jaws open. Place the open jaws over the gel battery concluding labeled "-" or "Neg" then release the force per unit area then the jaws close and tighten on the terminal. Repeat the procedure using the clamp on the end of the red cable from the charger, but position it on the battery terminal labeled "+" or "Pos."
Footstep 3
Check the front of your charger to make up one's mind what charge settings you can set. It's important y'all charge your gel battery at the everyman charge setting. Do not use "Boost" or "Fast-charge," as yous may damage the bombardment irreparably.
Step 4
Set the charger to the lowest setting; information technology is ordinarily marked "trickle-accuse." Some chargers have a specific setting for gel batteries, so if you have one, use it. If you don't accept gel or trickle charge settings ensure the charge rate is 20 percent lower than the voltage output from the gel battery. The voltage is clearly labeled on the bombardment and is usually 12-volts. Using 12-volts as an case, yous need to charge your battery at x-volts or less.
Step v
Plug in your bombardment charger to the electricity supply. Plough on your charger and then permit your bombardment charge. Feel the side of the bombardment after vi hours. If it is warm, that'south fine, and so go on charging, but if it feels hot, turn off the charger and let the battery absurd for about thirty minutes. Then plow on the charger again.
Stride 6
Continue to charge the battery, but bank check information technology every half dozen hours to ensure information technology doesn't get too hot. After 24 hours, your gel battery is fixed, restored and fully charged, and then turn off the charger. Disconnect the 2 clamps on the battery terminals.
